Top scientist warns AI could surpass human intelligence by 2027 - decades earlier than previously predicted
The computer scientist and CEO who popularized the term'artificial general intelligence' (AGI) believes AI is verging on an exponential'intelligence explosion.' The PhD mathematician and futurist Ben Goertzel made the prediction while closing out a summit on AGI this month: 'It seems quite plausible we could get to human-level AGI within, let's say, the next three to eight years.' 'Once you get to human-level AGI,' Goertzel, sometimes called'father of AGI,' added, 'within a few years you could get a radically superhuman AGI.' While the futurist admitted that he'could be wrong,' he went on to predict that the only impediment to a runaway, ultra-advanced AI -- far more advanced than its human makers -- would be if the bot's'own conservatism' advised caution. Mathematician and futurist Ben Goertzel made the prediction while closing out a summit on AGI las week: 'we could get to human-level AGI within, let's say, the next three to eight years' Goertzel made his predictions during his closing remarks last week at the '2024 Beneficial AI Summit and Unconference,' partially sponsored by his own firm SingularityNET where he is CEO.

AI-Driven Weapons Systems Lead Today's Arms Race
When it comes to advanced artificial intelligence, much of the debate has focused on whether white-collar workers are now facing the sort of extinction-level threat that the working class once did with robotics. And while it's suddenly likely that AI will be capable of duplicating a good part of what lawyers, accountants, teachers, programmers, and--yes--journalists do, that's not even where the most significant revolution is likely to occur. The latest AI--known as generative pre-trained transformers (GPT)--promises to utterly transform the geopolitics of war and deterrence. It will do so in ways that are not necessarily comforting, and which may even turn existential. On one hand, this technology could make war less lethal and possibly strengthen deterrence. By dramatically expanding the role of AI-directed drones in air forces, navies and armies, human lives could be spared.

The Rise of the Machines: Exploring the AI Singularity
The concept of the AI singularity has been a topic of fascination and speculation for decades. At its most basic, the singularity refers to a hypothetical future point in time where artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to exponential technological growth and a radical change in the nature of human civilization. The singularity has been described as a "tipping point" or a "knee of the curve" -- a moment when technological progress will accelerate at an unprecedented rate, leading to rapid and radical changes in society. While some believe that the singularity could lead to a utopia of technological advancement and human prosperity, others worry that it could have disastrous consequences, with some even going so far as to predict that it could lead to the end of humanity as we know it. Regardless of what the future holds, the AI singularity is a topic that is ripe for exploration and discussion, and one that will likely continue to be a source of fascination for years to come.

In the last century, oil was considered as the'black gold'. But, with the industrial revolution and the emergence of the automotive industry, oil became the main driving source of human civilization. However, with time, its value dwindled due to the gradual exhaustion and resorting to alternative renewable sources of energy. In the 21st century, the new driving force behind industries is Data. As a matter of fact, even automobile industries are using data to impart autonomy and improve the safety of their vehicles.

Is artificial intelligence destroying human civilisation?
Artificial intelligence has been a topic of debate for decades. With the advent of deep learning and neural networks, AI is now able to perform tasks that were previously performed by humans. This has led to many experts believing that the rise of artificial intelligence will lead to the destruction of human civilization as we know it today. The intelligent and intellectuals, find it increasingly difficult to differentiate real intelligence from the mediocre and AI generated output. This is a challenge that we all face as our lives become more intertwined with artificial intelligence. How do you know who your friends are?
2060: Civilization, Energy, and Progression of Mankind on the Kardashev Scale
Zhang, Antong, Yang, Jiani, Luo, Yangcheng, Fan, Siteng
Energy has been propelling the development of human civilization for millennia, and technologies acquiring energy beyond human and animal power have been continuously advanced and transformed. In 1964, the Kardashev Scale was proposed to quantify the relationship between energy consumption and the development of civilizations. Human civilization presently stands at Type 0.7276 on this scale. Projecting the future energy consumption, estimating the change of its constituting structure, and evaluating the influence of possible technological revolutions are critical in the context of civilization development. In this study, we use two machine learning models, random forest (RF) and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), to simulate and predict energy consumption on a global scale. We further project the position of human civilization on the Kardashev Scale in 2060. The result shows that the global energy consumption is expected to reach 928-940 EJ in 2060, with a total growth of over 50% in the coming 40 years, and our civilization is expected to achieve Type 0.7474 on the Kardashev Scale, still far away from a Type 1 civilization. Additionally, we discuss the potential energy segmentation change before 2060 and present the influence of the advent of nuclear fusion in this context.

The Coming AI Singularity in 2050: How to Survive and Thrive in the Trans-Human Era
Artificial intelligence was coined in the summer of 1956. Most experts are confident that singularity will happen sooner in the future rather than later. Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a technological reality for businesses and organizations across industries. Even if its benefits may not be always easy to quantify, AI has proven itself capable of improving process efficiency, reducing human errors and labor, and extracting insights from big data. Scientists are still unable to reach technological singularity to surpass human intelligence with a view to outsmart, outperform or outdo it. Reaching singularity could be a defining moment for humanity when machines reach a level of intelligence that exceeds that of humans.
How an Artificial Superintelligence Might Actually Destroy Humanity
I'm confident that machine intelligence will be our final undoing. Its potential to wipe out humanity is something I've been thinking and writing about for the better part of 20 years. I take a lot of flak for this, but the prospect of human civilization getting extinguished by its own tools is not to be ignored. There is one surprisingly common objection to the idea that an artificial superintelligence might destroy our species, an objection I find ridiculous. It's not that superintelligence itself is impossible.
